New Bern!!
Hey Everyone!! Hope you all are doing well!!I Finally made it to the field!!
This week has been so much fun, and I feel like I've already learned so much.
Made it out to Charleston with no problems, just to find out I'll be serving in the New Bern NC area of the mission. It is the northernmost part of the mission and so I had a 5+ hour drive to get here after I met my companion in Mt Pleasant.
It's not too far away, but the speed limits usually cap at like 60 and then change down to 50 quickly, so it took awhile.
I live in a quad with my companion Elder Montmeny, and two other elders who are a ton of fun to be around. It's often a struggle to go to bed on time because we are just chilling having a good time.
We have taught so many people all over this town. The most memorable was when we were teaching our friend Victoria, who lives kinda in the Ghetto of New Bern. We had an amazing discussion with her and her cousin Abraham. The Spirit was so strong in that room, but eventually the meeting ended. We left more abruptly than some other lessons, and about 2 minutes later we got a call asking if we were okay. She said that someone got shot right outside of her house. It is still insane to us how we just missed that from happening, but it is a testament that the spirit will guide us to safety.
This week we had a Zone conference with Elder Christensen and his wife came to train us in Myrtle Beach. My biggest take away from that meeting was that we are not missionaries to fight about religion, but that we are here to testify of how we can have everlasting Joy in this life and in the life to come.
I kinda noticed this earlier this week when we knocked on a door and this girl named raine opened and was just so happy to see us. Her mom came to the door, and we just shared a message about Jesus Christ with them and they loved it. Tons of kids ran around me and started asking me questions about different pamphlets I was holding, while Elder Montmeny handed out a Book of Mormon. I just loved that moment where everyone was excited all because of Jesus Christ.
My favorite part about being here though is how open everyone is to talking about Jesus Christ. We knock on doors and ask people what Jesus Christ means to them and they always say "Everything!!"
Lastly, I just wanted to say how Happy I am out here! People often look at the mission as a sacrifice, but I am just looking forward to how much I am gaining from this experience. I hit one month in the mission yesterday, and I already want it to slow down.
